Devlog 21: The night before DD 54
Published late, but published nonetheless. This is the devlog from the night before Demo Day.
Working on content has paid off as the latest version includes 3 new levels, one more than anticipated. As I've hinted to before, I think planning was an important for this because I had a clear idea of what I wanted to accomplish with these stages which led to less time lost in experimentation.
However, were these good ideas? That is a mystery.
On a different note, as a continuing effort of implementing keyboard controls to complement the existing control scheme, dialog sections now have new controls and the settings menu now has a slider for text speed. Some may argue quite necessary for a game with so much text.
Moving further, Finnegan has received an important buff to his defensive skills in the form of gaining armor every time his support skill is used. Armor is so far an exclusive mechanic to Finnegan and it decreases all direct damage by a flat amount. Likewise, Mosca has been hit by a nerf to her AoE skills. Her slow is now weaker depending on how many enemies it hits because she was absolutely trivializing some encounters by stacking slows on enemies.
Haydn remains the same for the time being.
Finally, I added small tooltips for multiple status effects icons in order to make them easier to keep track of. At first I wanted to do this for the new armor mechanic so players could estimate how much damage they were going to take more easily but then I realized this would be useful across the board.
Pictured ahead, a practice dummy having a bad day. You would too if your STR was lowered by 3 and you were taking 2 poison damage per second.
This is the end of the devlog and soon the game's story will conclude as well. I wish I had a corny line prepared, but I don't. Have a great day and I hope to see you again in 2 weeks.
