Devlog 32: Watching Over Me

This devlog is coming out a little later than usual because I have an announcement to make: Afterlife Gladiator will be participating on Pixeltated, a Steam game festival organized by the wonderful people at Brave at Night. I hope it goes well.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming, I have finished redoing some old slides. The second one in particular was my least favorite picture in the game so I'm glad that it's out of the way. That has to be the least on-model Mosca of all time and, while I wanted Finnegan to look awkward as if he doesn't know how to properly hold an animal, I think I went too far with the old version.

The rest didn't need many alterations although I did change the way Enkidu holds the flask so we can see his paws.

Also, now I understand why some indie games out there that use this method of exposition sometime have no more than 3 or maybe 4 of these "cinematics" because these are definitely time consuming to make for something that the player will only see on screen for 5 seconds. In one hand, failing so much has helped me improve, but if I do this again I'll probably use placeholder sketches next time.

There is another set of slides that received some changes but I don't want to spoil them.

On a different note, I have hopefully fixed an unforeseen bug introduced by one of Haydn't new trinkets. I wanted to make items more attractive but instead I ended up generating full empties from Roadside Picnic. I hate it when that happens.

Anyway, that is all I had for today. I hope to see you again, certainly wonderful hypothetical reader, in 2 weeks when I will try to have something more substantial.

It would be nice if you added an in-game gallery or something with all this art that has been removed over time.

Interesting idea.

I don't think a lot of people would care for it, but it wouldn't be difficult to implement either.

Maybe as a bonus for beating the game, who knows.

Good luck with the festival. I hope you are going to get plenty of wishlists out of it.

Thank you for the kind wishes.
